Hydrogels have promising potential as smart materials that show structural and physical changes by environment stimuli factors such as temperature, pH value, electric field and solvent composition. Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) is a typical water soluble polymer. Poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) react with PVA because of having carboxyl group in every monomer unit and the characteristics including high solubility in a water as a solvent for the casting solution and high miscibility with PVA. Strong crosslinking by ester linkage can be formed between the hydroxyl group of PVA and the carboxyl group of PAA. In this working, we prepared PVA/PAA hydrogel films with different cross-linking temperature and investigated pH, thermal and physical properties of the gel films. |
