Influence of Silver Nanowires on the Performance of Organic Photovoltaic Devices |

We have explored the effect of silver nanowires (Ag NWs)-induced surface plasmons on the performance of organic photovoltaic devices (OPVs). We coated Ag NWs on a transparent conducting front contact of indium tin oxide (ITO). We subsequently spin a layer of transparent conducting polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), followed by the active layer. Upon introduction of Ag NWs, these photovoltaic cells showed an increase in the power conversion efficiency. This increase in efficiency is due to the presence of the resulting plasmon field and higher absorption in the active layer of the device. The magnitude of the increase can be tuned by changing the thickness of the PEDOT:PSS layer. |
