Polypyrrole(PPy) is a conducting polymer(CP) that undergoes volume expansion or contraction when the oxidation level is changed. This change in volume related to insertion or expulsion of ions has been utilized for actuation, which is attractive because it can be controlled electrochemically. Their fascinating features as actuators are large strain, light weight, and low voltages for actuation. In the development of CP actuators, most effort has been concentrated on improving the strain and response time. However, CP actuators have an important drawback to hysteresis based on continuous cyclic actuations. And it restricts the application of CP actuator in semiconductor devices, position-control devices, and medical instruments. So in this study, to solve this problem conducting shape memory polyurethane (CSMPU) which has excellent recovery force and polypyrrole (PPy) electrode are introduced for the CP actuator. |
