Due to the various pore structures of active carbon, it is widely used as absorbent, catalyst, filtering media, and so on. besides, It also has a wide range of industrial uses such as waste gas disposal, solvent recovery, and water treatment. For these purposes, particle and pore size distribution, thermal stability, and mechanical properties are very important. Furan resin, which is a kind of thermosetting polymer containing furan ring and can be formed by self-condensation of furfuryl alcohol or furfural, can be a good source for active carbon. In this study, spherical furan particles were synthesized by suspension polymerization, and carbonized to spherical active carbon beads. acid catalyst and arabic gum as a surfactant were used in this reaction. Thermal stability, mechanical properties, and particle size distribution were examined with surfactant and catalyst, and yield of carbonization and surface area of active carbon beads were also analyzed. |
