Imidazole based materials for efficient blue organic light emitting diodes employing thermally activated delayed fluorescence |

We have successfully synthesized a series of blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters 4-PXN-HPI, 5-PXN -HPI, 4-PXN-HPI-C, 5-PXN-HPI-C, TPI-(PXN)4, PXN-TPI-C, HPI-PXN and their electronic and optical properties were investigated for OLED application. The density functional theory calculation shows that all of the compounds have their unoccupied molecular orbitals on the phenyl imidazole moiety. However highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is widely dispersed to the whole phenoxazine group. As a result, ∆EST is reduced from 5-PXN-HPI-C > 4-PXN-HPI-C > TPI-(PXN)4 > 4-PXN-HPI > PXN-TPI-C > HPI-PXN and organic light emitting diodes using these materials as dopants emit blue light and their photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) increase from 3.31 % to 41.2 % for HPI-PXN and 5-PXN-HPI-C, respectively. |
