Biocompatible, hydrophilic coatings of consumable medical devices are important technologies for reductions of tissue damage. We have applied hydrophilic coating of PP medical device using biocompatible polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymer. The medical applicators of polypropylene (PP) polymer is a material which has no harmful components in the human body and is likely to be used for low-cost medical applicators in the future. In this study, we developed a technique for PVP coating on a PP medical device for peculiarizing biocompatible hydrophilic properties. We apply the stabilization of PVP chains into the polymer matrix by thermosetting polyethyleneglycoldimethylacrylate (PEGDA). In addition, ethylene acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) was introduced to improve the adhesion property of PP surface, as a primary coating material. As the results, we obtained the mechanically stable PVP coating with the superior biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and lubricity. |
