제목 | Synthesis and Aging Effects of Hydrous Zirconia and Zirconium (Oxy)Hydroxide |
초록 | Growing interest in zirconium oxide(ZrO2) is related to the increasing number of its actual and potential technological applications that are possible owing to the particular chemical, thermal and mechanical properties of zirconia. In the present study, thermal decomposition of ZrOCl2•8H2O in solid-state and in aqueous solution, aging effects on the structural differences of calcined hydrous zirconia[ZrO2•nH2O] and zirconium (oxy)hydroxide[Zr(OH)4 and ZrO(OH)2] samples, and their applications are discussed. Hydrous zirconia was obtained by forced hydrolysis of zirconyl chloride octahydrate(ZrOCl2•8H2O) at various concentrations from 0.05M to 0.4M for 120 hrs. And zirconium (oxy)hydroxides, ZrO(OH)2 and Zr(OH)4, were precipitated from aqueous solutions of ZrCl4 and ZrOCl2•8H2O with 25% aqueous solution of ammonia. Primary particles of hydrous ZrO2 prepared by hydrolysis of ZrOCl2•8H2O revealed several nm-sized crystallites and monoclinic phase, whereas precipitates obtained acidic precipitation method had amorphous phase. And pH of the solution, aging temperature and aging time were the effective factors on phase-transition of the calcined ZrO2. A single phase tetra-ZrO2 was appeared on the XRD patterns of the calcined hydrous ZrO2 and zirconium hydroxides at 600°C for 2 hrs followed by aging of the precipitates at room temperature for 240 hrs in the solutions of pH 10. |
