Silica nanoparticles have extensive applications in scientific and industrial fields such as catalysis, stabilizers, pigments, electronic substrates, electronic and thermal insulators, humidity sensors, ceramics and chromatography. Fluorescein has a very high molar absorptivity at a wavelength(488 nm) and large fluorescence quantum yield of which high photostability makes it very useful in the application. Nanosized silica particles were produced under size controlled conditions and derived with fluorescein during the formation of a core-shell structure. The core-shell silica nanoparticles were prepared through a two-step synthesis involving sol-gel acrylation of nano-sized silica and thermal acrylic polymerization. The core-shell structure and particle size are observed by SEM analysis together with optical properties and stability studies. |
