The Cu2O nanoparticle aggregates (NPAs) with a uniform size of 450 nm were prepared by the reduction of copper(II) acetate with ascorbic acid in the presence of polyacrylamide surfactant. The Cu2O NPAs were silica coated with a sol-gel reaction using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica source, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as a catalyst in ethanol/H2O solvent. Under certain concentrations of Cu2O NPAs, H2O and NaOH, the Cu2O NPAs@SiO2 particles with different silica shell thickness were produced by varying TEOS concentration. Due to the high reactivity of Cu2O, the structure of Cu2O NPAs@SiO2 may be very interesting as template for further application. |
