Synthesis and characterization of surface modified titania/silica aerogel powder by sol-gel process |

The titania/silica aerogel was synthesized using competitively priced precursors (titanium oxychloride and 8wt% sodium silicate) and prepared in powder form by facile two step process at ambient pressure drying (APD). Solvent exchange/modification via silylating agent such as 10vol% of TMCS or HMDS in n-hexane was also involved to synthesis procedures for hydrophobic property. The resulting titiania/silica aerogel powder have a high pore size (~152nm), pore volume (~0.58~1.1 cm3/g) and specific surface area (~351 m2/g). The homogeneity of the titania-silica aerogel powders was confirmed by TEM, FE-SEM and XRD. |
