Homopolymer induced Ordering Transition ofClosed-loop Block Copolymer |

The phase behaviors of binary mixtures of a block copolymer and homopolymer have been of great interests due to their effective allowance of various ordered structures or disordered state by the relative composition and the degree of miscibility between two. In this study, the phase behavior for the binary mixtures of a PS-b-PnPMA and homo PS was investigated by depolarized light scattering and SAXS as a function of amount of PS. A homopolymer-free PS-b-PnPMA showed the entirely disordered state within experimental temperature range from the glass transition temperature (Tg) to the thermal degradation temperature (Td). By adding PS to this PS-b-PnPMA, the closed-loop phase behavior was observed for the binary mixtures where no macrophase separation occurred. With increasing molecular weight (chain length) of PS, the ordered range of the closed-loop extended remarkably and a critical amount of PS increased. ([email protected]) |
