제목 Microencapsulation of Black and White Pigment Particle Suspension for Electrophoretic Display
초록 We have manufactured the microcapsule contained black and white charged particles suspension as a core material for the microcapsule-type electrophoretic display application via in-situ polymerization. The microcapsule-type electrophoretic display consists of millions of tiny microcapsules, each one containing charged pigment particles that react to an external electric field to form an image. Optical contrast is achieved by moving pigment particles in a medium. The white particles scatter light when they are bought near the viewer, and the black pigments absorb light when they are drawn away form the viewer.
The encapsulation efficiency and the physical properties were analyzed with varying formaldehyde/urea and melamine (F/UM) mole ratio, urea/melamine composition ratio, pH of emulsion medium, and the viscosity difference between the reaction medium and the core material suspension. The pH of the reaction medium was varied from 5.0 ~ 6.0 and the F/UM molar ratio, 2.3 ~ 5.5. Microcapsules containing the pigment particle suspension were synthesized successfully and their particle sizes ranged from 50 ~ 200 μm.
