Preparation and release kinetics of biological substances from silk fibroin film |

Silk has been used as a polymeric drug carrier in several different forms. This polymer presents many advantages for controllable polymeric release systems such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and aqueous processing. Caffeine has been used in cosmetics in order to stimulate the fat body metabolism, and many commercialized sliming creams contain caffeine as a main ingredient. On the other hand, phytoncides emitted from trees have the properties of stress relieving, skin whitening, anti-microbial and anti-oxidant. Transdermal therapeutic systems have many advantages over the traditional topical formulations such as control of the area of application and amount of dose. Therefore, transdermal delivery using bio-adhesive film is a good method for the administration of biological substances. In this study, we prepared silk fibroin films containing caffeine and phytoncides as a biological substance for transdermal patches and the kinetics of release was investigated. |
