In measurements of particle size of microemulsons, Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS)) techniques are typically employed and the method requires the information on the solvent viscosity(not solution viscosity) and refractive index for using the Stokes-Einstein equation. However, in four component O/W microemulsion systems, it is impossible to obtain viscosity(or refractive index) of the continuous phase without the information on the phase composition of surfactant and cosurfactant. In the work, the parameter r, [cosurfactant]/[SDS] from the conductivity study and the viscosity data for blended solution of BL and IPM were utilized for the measurements. Using this technique, the accurate hydrodynamic diameter of the W/O microemulsions could be obtained in four component microemulsion systems. |
