Time delays are common phenomena in industrial processes and they cause the control-related problems. Conventional controllers, like the PID, are often ineffective for control of such processes, as a significant amount of detuning would be required to maintain closed-loop stability. To overcome this problem, Smith introduced a dead time compensator called Smith Predictor.In this paper we proposed a robust SP with a new structure. This robust SP has the same function as an original one but it has a different characteristic equation which is not affected by model mismatch so it is robust to modeling error. Moreover due to a new structure we can extend application of SP for unstable processes until now it seems to be impossible in terms of stability. From simulation study, we can recognize this robust SP not only guarantees stability even when there is serious mismatch but shows better control performance than that of previous methods.
