Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been shown to be an attractive filler for increasing mechanical properties and the electrical conductivity of polymers at relatively low CNT contents. But, the potential of using CNT as polymer composite reinforcements has not been recognized mainly because of the difficulties in processing and in the limitation on load transfer. Also, the dispersion property becomes more important when CNT are blended into the polymer. However CNT tend to remain as entangled agglomerates and homogeneous dispersion is not easily obtained. Furthermore, the lack of interactions between CNT and polymers limits effective load transfer at the interface of the dispersed phase and the matrix, leading to premature failure of the material. So, we prepared polymer blends with CNT by power ultrasound wave which act as a dispersion tool of the composites. And, we investigated on the mechanical and rheological properties of polymer blends with CNT. As a result, polymer blends with good dispersion of CNT were prepared without using any organic modifiers. Ultrasound assisted melt mixing was used to uniformly disperse CNT in various polymer matrices including polyethylene (PE), polystyren (PS) with polycarbonate (PC) copolymers. |
