Polylactide (PLA) is a thermoplastic and high-strength, high-modulus polymer that can be made from annually renewable resources. However, PLA has some demerits such as brittleness, low heat distortion temperature, high gas permeability and low melt viscosity. An aim of our research is to modify poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) for the improvement of toughness and thermal stability. We synthesized PLLA-PTMG (poly(tetramethylene ether glycol)) copolymer. PLLA-PTMG copolymer was synthesized in the presence of the stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) as a catalyst and triphenyl phosphine (PPh3) as a co-catalyst by using brabender mixer. The various copolymers which have different molecular weight and different composition were characterized by GPC, DSC and TGA. We measured Tm, Tc, Tg and crystallinity of copolymers by DSC and thermal stability by TGA. |
