Strontium-89 is a radionuclide which has been used to treat secondary bone metastasis from lung cancer, bone metastasis from breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Strontium-90 is a parent nuclide of 90Y-generator which is being used as a radiotherapeutic nuclide. These 89/90Sr can be adsorbed by using crown ethers. However the crown ethers can not be easily synthesized and they are expensive. Therefore there are continuous needs to improve adsorption ability and develop recyclable crown ethers. For the better efficient adsorption of 89/90Sr, we report the synthesis of novel ionic liquid-type crown ethers (IL-CEs) which are non-toxic, recyclable and economic. Also, the IL-CEs are expected to be used for adsorption of the other radionuclides or heavy metals. |
