제목 Preparation and properties of PET/LDH nanocomposites
초록 In last decades, much of attentions have been concentrated to the study of nanocomposites built from inorganic layered materials and a polymer. The most important factors for this research area are 1) dispersion of inorganic nanoparticles in polymer matrix and 2) compatibility between inorganic filler and organic polymer. These two main researching approaches on the nanocomposites could lead to a goal of improved properties such as mechanical property, thermal stability and gas permeability.[1]
Several methods have been conducted for obtaining polymer nanocomposites with layered materials, i.e. solution intercalation, melt intercalation, and in-situ intercalation.[2-6] Among them, in-situ polymerization, swelling of the layers by the monomer followed by polymerization, is very effective on the dispersion of nanofillers. The chain growth in layers accelerates the layer exfoliation and nanocomposite formation. In the case of PET polymerization, however, elevated temperatures to, at least, above 280℃ are required for in-situ intercalation and bulk processing. If the processing temperature is higher than the thermal stability of the organically modified fillers, decomposition will occur. Therefore, to obtain the nanocomposites without thermal degradation during the processing, we used a thermally stable organo-LDH.
In this study, we describe a method for making PET nanocomposites with LDH by using in-situ polymerization. Then, the thermo-mechanical properties and the morphologies of PET nanocomposites were investigated.
