제목 Characteristics of Amphiphilic Cyclic and Linear Block Copolymer Micelles
초록 The amphiphilic cyclic poly(n-butyl acrylate-b-ethylene oxide) (cyclic PBA-b-PEO) or a linear poly(n-butyl acrylate-b-ethylene oxide-b-n-butyl acrylate) (linear PBA-b-PEO-b-PBA) spontaneously formed micelles in water. It’s the first time to investigate the structural features of these micelles by X-ray scattering techniques and quantitative data analysis. According to the data, both micelles were composed of a core and a fuzzy shell. The core consisted of hydrophobic PBA block and the fuzzy shell parts consisted of hydrophilic PEO block. The cyclic block copolymer micelles were found to have more compact core and shell parts. Moreover, the PBA block of the cyclic copolymer was revealed to form a denser hydrophobic core than that of PBA homopolymer in the bulk sate. The elimination of the chain end groups from the amphiphilic block copolymer introduced entropy and increased the excess excluded volume. Thus cyclic block copolymer formed more stable and denser micelles in solution.
