Effect of high energy proton irradiation on polyacrylonitrile films |

In this study, the effect of proton irradiation on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) films was investigated. PAN films spin-coated on a substrate were irradiated with proton ions. The changes in the chemical structures and optical properties were evaluated by FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The cyclization reaction of nitrile groups occurred by proton irradiation and the degree of cyclization increased with an increase in the fluence. The optical band gap decreased from 2.84 to 2.52 eV due to the formation of sp2-hybridized carbon clusters by proton irradiation. In addition, both the number of carbon atoms per carbon clusters and the number of carbon atoms per conjugation length increased with an increase in the fluence. |
