Nano-sized graphene oxides (NGOs) have been utilized for various biomedical applications. In this work, biocompatible and non-immunogenic hyaluronic acid (HA) was conjugated to NGO for its transdermal delivery with enhanced physiological stability. After topical administration to the back of SKH-1 mice with B16F1 melanoma cells, the transdermal delivery of NGO-HA into the tumor tissue was confirmed by Raman Spectroscopy and Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy. The hyperthermic treatment by near infrared (NIR) irradiation effectively destructed the tumor tissues. The apoptosis of tumor sites was confirmed by histological TUNEL assay and caspase-3 ELISA. Taken together, NGO-HA conjugates were thought to be effectively exploited for transdermal ablation therapy for the treatment of skin cancers. |
