The initiators reported that for N-Carboxyanhydrides (NCA) ring-opening polymerization are nucleophiles and bases, such as primery amines and transition metal complex system, but these methods were accompanied by side reactions. A new method for controlled synthetic polymer-block-polypeptide copolymers was performed by the ring-opening polymerization of α-amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides using N-trimethylsilyl amine as initiators. In the presence of N-TMS amine functionalized macroinitiator, amine terminated polyethylene glycol methyl ether-block-hydrophobic peptide multiblock copolymers were successfully synthesised. Polymerizations were fast, showed quantitative conversion and low polydispersity index. This synthetic route for ring-opening polymerization of NCA is useful for the synthesis of controllable bioconjugate hybrid materials. Interesting nanostructures formed by the resulting hybrid copolymers are to be dicussed. |
