Gelatin is a natural polymer derived from animal collagen and known to help wound healing. However, in the synthesis through electrospinning, the mechanical strength is low, and it is vulnerable to humidity. This can be overcome with a Catechol functionalized nanofiber patch containing gelatin and hyaluronic acid. Nanofibers by electrospinning can be applicable in the field of tissue engineering field due to three-dimensional structures, similar to the natural extracellular matrix (ECM). In this study, a nanofiber patch with gelatin and hyaluronic acid is prepared by electrospinning and functionalized with a catechol group. In an animal test, our patch can accelerate wound healing and significantly reduce the amount of bleeding through tests for hemostasis ability using rat liver. In conclusion, our catechol-functionalized nanofiber patch can be utilized in various tissue engineering fields and skin treatment. |
