Selective oxidations of alcohols to aldehydes or carboxylic acids are fundamental transformations in organic synthesis. Since novel metals such as Au, Ru, and Pd have been used as the catalysts for selective oxidation of alcohols, there is growing an interest for using abundant and cheap metal catalysts. In this sense, iron catalysts have been developed for the oxidation reactions. However, there are few applications of iron catalysts in heterogeneous system. Here, we prepared hydroxyapatite-supported iron hydroxide as a heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of alcohols and report its catalytic performance. |
