Bifunctional Activity of One-step Fabricated Hydrated Nickel Cobalt Molybdenum Oxide Nanorods in Energy Storage and Conversion Applications |

The development of efficient bifunctional electrode materials for energy storage and conversion systems is quite challenging. In this context, hydrated nickel cobalt molybdenum oxide nanorods (NCMO) have been fabricated by a simple one-step reflux method as an efficient electrode material for supercapacitor and electrocatalytic water oxidation in alkaline medium. The NCMO nanorods demonstrate high specific capacity of ~693.9 C g-1 at 1 A g-1 current density in three electrode configuration, which is superior compared to its mono-metallic counterparts owing to the synergistic effect of Ni2+ and Co2+ ions. Further, an asymmetric device, consisting of the NCMO nanorods as positive and 3D porous nitrogen-doped carbons (PNC) as negative electrodes, delivers high energy density of ~65.5 W h kg–1 at 465 W kg–1 power density with good cycling stability. |
