Enhanced Luminescent Properties of Conjugated Polymer with PSS-Ionomer compared with Polystyrene as a matrix |

Poly[2-methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) blends with poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) ionomer (PSS-ionomer) were used as emitting materials in polymer LED and PSS-ionmer was used as a matrix of polymer blends. The polymers were blended in the various ratios and luminescent properties of these polymer blends were compared with those of MEH-PPV/PS blends. The devices of MEH-PPV/PSS-ionomer and MEH-PPV/PS blends showed higher luminescent efficiency compared with pure polymer devices. This enhanced PL, EL efficiency was due to the dilution effect. But MEH-PPV/PSS-ionomer blends showed great luminescent efficiency because of intermolecular energy transfer as well as dilution effect. We investigated mainly the PL and EL properties of MEH-PPV blended with PSS-ionomer and the energy transfer characteristics of these light-emitting polymers.
