Rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF) are widely used in various fields of insulation, such as freezing container and LNG transportation. Especially, RPUF is used for carrying LNG demanding good thermal insulation as well as mechanical properties such as compressive strength and dimensional stability at very low temperature. These properties of RPUF can be improved by incorporating glass fiber/silica nanoparticles. RPUF with glass fiber/silica composites have been fabricated from glass fiber, silica nanoparticles, polypropylene glycols (PPG) and polymeric 4,4'-di-phenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI) using HFC-365mfc as the blowing agent. In this experiment, the effects of glass fiber and silica nanoparticles on the performances of the foams have been extensively analyzed in terms of reactivity, density, cell morphology, thermal conductivity, mechanical, and thermal properties of the foam. |
