Synthesis of Electro-Active Polymer Brushes on ITO Surfaces Through Surface-Initiated Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization |

The modification of indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates with organic materials has recently received great attention due to the critical role in determining the performance of photoactive devices. In the present study, electro-active poly(propylene dioxythiophene-styrene) (proDOT-sty) brushes have been prepared based on SI-ATRP as well as electropolymerization for thin films with enhanced hole transport properties. The proDOT-functional styrenic monomers were synthesized by the DCC coupling reaction of 4-vinylbenzoic acid with proDOT-OH. After the SI-ATRP of proDOT-styrene, the well-defined polymer brushes were confirmed with SEM and AFM measurements. In addition, the electrochemical properties of polymer brushes of different molar masses and thicknesses were characterized by cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, we compare the electrochemical properties of polymer brusehs with those of PEDOT:PSS films to confirm the effect of chain allignment and surface morphology on device performance. |
