제목 Development of a novel two-step process for biodiesel production from sewage sludge using acidic solid catalysts and subsequent alkaline solid catalysts.
초록 Sewage sludge is considered a suitable substitute for conventional biodiesel feedstocks because it is widely and consistently available, and contains considerable amounts of organic compounds. Contrary to homogenous chemical catalysts, heterogeneous solid catalysts have the significant advantage of enabling the possible reuse and easy separation from the reaction mixture, which would substantially decrease catalyst requirements and wastewater discharge. Since the lipids from sewage sludge has high free fatty acid (FFA) content, alkaline solid catalyst cannot be used. We proposed a novel two-step process. In the first step, commercial acidic solid catalysts were used to lower FFA content of reaction mixture as well as produce biodiesel through esterification. In the second step, alkaline solid catalysts manufactured from waste scallop shells were used to facilitate biodiesel production. Through this process, we could successfully produce biodiesel from sewage sludge.
