Extensive evaluation of sonodynamic cancer therapy using titanium oxide nanoparticles. |
초록 |
Many non-invasive and site-specific techniques have been developed to overcome the disadvantages of cancer treatment modalities. In conventional photodynamic therapy, the maximum depth of tissue penetration is only a few millimeters. Therefore, high intensity focused ultrasound has emerged as a potential alternative to the traditional methods. Interestingly, ultrasound can also activate certain photoactive materials, such as titanium oxide, to generate ROS, a treatment also known as sonodynamic therapy (SDT). In this study, we have demonstrated the abilities of titanium oxide-based nanoparticles suitable for SDT: 1) ROS generated by SDT-treated titanium oxide can kill tumor cells directly. 2) It also damages the tumor-associated vasculatures, leading to tumor infarction 3) The treatment can activate an immune response against tumor cells. 4) Also, we evaluated the effectiveness of the SDT in deeply set tumor. The SDT effectively inhibited the tumor growth in the liver tumor models. |
