Among the extracts from cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), cardanol has 1 to 3 double bond containing unsaturated chains in the meta position of reactive benzene rings and phenol groups. This is a resource that can produce new functional materials for various polymers. Bio-polyols synthesized using cardanol have been used in various applications of polyurethane. Therefore, biopolyol was synthesized via two step reaction process of the hydroxyl group of cardanol. To compare with bio-polyol, PEG was used as control material. The chemical structure of the bio-polyol using cardanol was analyzed by H-NMR and FT-IR. The thermal stability of the bio-polyol was analyzed by TGA and DSC. The prepared polyurethanes according to the ratio of bio-polyol and PEG were analyzed by FT-IR. TGA,gel content, water absorption, and antibacterial tests were then conducted to investigate the effect of bio-polyol on polyurethanes |
