Superhydrophobic surfaces are of great interest for many potential applications, including anti-fouling of ship hulls, self-cleaning windshields for automobiles, airplanes and buildings. There has been tremendous effort to create superhydrophobic surfaces using various methods, including vapor-induced phase separation, crystallization of polyethylene, micellization of block copolymers, colloidal lithography, and synthesis of nanowires and nanotubes. In this study, hydrophobic surface was fabricated using self-assembled structure of I-O hybrids prepared using alkoxysilane-functionalized polyurethane precursors. The I-O hybrid was synthesized by co-hydrolysis and co-condensation of polyurethane based precursor and other co-precursors. The hybrid structure has a non-hydrolysable functional group which is responsible for causing hydrophobicity. The properties of the hydrophobic surface was analysed and characterized by contact angle measurement, SEM, FT-IR, TGA and GPC. |
