Recently, various imaging modalities have been exploited and are successfully employed to investigate the disease. However, no single imaging modality allows overall structural, functional, and molecular information. The combination of several imaging modalities might offer the prospect of improved diagnostic monitoring abilities. SPIONs are well-known and widely used nanoparticles as a MRI contrast enhancing agent. Cy5.5 is the most popular organic dye in biomedical application because of its excellent optical properties. In this work, biocompatible multimodal SPIONs are prepared using simple coating and coupling methods and show excellent properties for optical and MRI. SPIONs were stabilized by dopamine conjugated hyaluronic acid (HA) and glycol chitosan (GC). HA and GC are well-known biocompatible natural polymers and dopamine is a biocompatible adhesion molecule. After that, Cy5.5 conjugated MMP substrate was introduced to nanoparticles by simple EDC/NHS coupling method. |
