Siloxane hybrid materials, having attracted attention to overcome the limitation of pure organic and inorganic materials with robust mechanical and thermal properties, have been applied toward the era of flexible electronics. In this study, we demonstrate random- and ladder-structured methacrylate siloxane hybrid materials via simple sol-gel reaction and free radical polymerization. Both siloxane hybrid materials show high optical transparency (~90%) in visible range with superior mechanical and thermal properties. Urethane dimethacrylate (BUDM) is synthesized for a additional cross-linker into methacrylate hybrid materials, resulting in relaxing steric hindrance of oligo-slioxanes. The hydrogen bonding of the BUDM improves the methacrylate conversion, then the flexural and elastic properties were enhanced while the flexibility was also enhanced simultaneously. Molecular structures of the siloxane could be adjusted in the nano-scale level for grafting on to various applications. |
