Cationic and anionic polymers can be self-assembled by layer by layer (LbL) technique into multilayer films. We fabricated multilayer films composed of poy(allyamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and sulfonated poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) on the surface of Nafion as a substrate. Also, the multilayer PAH/sPPO films were chemically crosslinked by azide (-N3) activation. With this approach, durability and barrier property of the LbL films are expected to increase. For both uncrosslinked and crosslinked films, erosion experiment against NaCl solution or alkali solution, and permeability test against methanol, were carried out. Experiments were monitored by NMR and UV-visible spectroscopies. The results toward fuel cell membrane will be presented in terms of proton conductivity and methanol permeability. |
