Monodisperse polymer nanoparticles (PNPs) having functional surfaces have attracted considerable interest owing to their potential applications in the field of coatings, drug deliveries, adhesives, catalysts, chemical sensors, adsorbents and optoelectronic devices. In this study we report a simple and efficient method of fabricating monodisperse hyperbranched polymer nanoparticles (HB-PNPs) presenting active phenolic units on the surface via one-pot A2+B3 polymerization in the non-emulsion system. The mechanism of nucleation, growth and disassembly process of these HB-PNPs will be discussed in detail as well as their fundamental physical and surface properties. Finally, surface functionalization of the phenolic surface groups of HB-PNPs with various fluorescent dyes will also be introduced. |
