A series of well-defined multiarm star block copolymers with fixed molar mass per one arm at equivalent block ratio was investigated. Controlled bulk ring-opening polymerization of ε-decalactone with multiarm initiators yielded hydroxyl-terminated (PDL-OH)n, which were subsequently converted to (PDL-PLA)n using D,L-lactide through a one-pot, two-step process. We report (a) new methods for preparing (PDL-PLA)n=2,4,6,8 or 16 having a PDL inner block and PLA outer block with an Mn of one arms about 30kgmol-1 and fPLA of 0.27 and disclose (b) the mechanical and thermal properties of the multiarm aliphatic polyester elastomers are enhanced including moduli, toughness, tensile strength, and degradation temperature as increasing n, which was caused by increasing of total molecular weight and the number of PLA domains as a hard block. |
