The Effect of Cadmium Ions on The Order-to-Disorder Transition of Block Copolymer |
초록 |
Abstract : The effect of cadmium [Cd] ions on the order-to-disorder transition [ODT] of a symmetric diblock copolymer is investigated with varying contents of Cd. Polystyrene-Block-Poly(2-vinyl pyridine) [PS-P2VP] used in our experiments has very well-known amphiphilic characteristic and lamellae microstructures arising from its composition. This block copolymer shows a transition from a phase-seperated to a phase-mixed state upon heating and this phase transition is named Upper Critical Ordering Transition [UCOT]. The microphase separation of block copolymer is occurred through concentration fluctuation caused by diffusion of each block segment because of the repulsive energetic interaction between constituent block chains. Therefore, the ODT of a block copolymer is able to be affected if the diffusion of segments is interrupted by any physical or chemical interaction. Artificially special interactions were induced to PS-P2VP block copolymer by various contents of Cd ions. We predicted that Cd ions binding and bridging within P2VP segments would disturb chain mobility of block copolymer. Consequently as you see figure.1, we find that a relatively very small amount of Cd ions can give rise to a greater suppression of the ODT temperature. The change of ODT between neat PS-P2VP and ion-contained sample was studied using Small Angle X-ray Scattering [SAXS], Polarized Optical Microscopy [POM] and Rheological Method. Microstructures of block copolymer were also defined by Transmission Electron Microscopy [TEM]. |
