Drying-Mediated Self-Organization of InkJet-Printed Soluble Acene on Surface-Modified Dielectrics for High-Performance Organic Transistors |

Inkjet printing of organic semiconductor films with uniform morphology and the desired molecular orientation become a major challenge because charge carrier transport in organic electronic devices is strongly related to the crystalline microstructures and morphologies of their organic semiconductor films. In this study, we have demonstrated the influence of surface wettability of dielectric substrate on the crystalline microstructure and film morphology of an inkjet-printed organic semiconductor, 6,13-bis((triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS PEN), by using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). The drying process of ink-jet printed TIPS PEN droplet on various surfaces was directly observed with optical microscope during evaporation, and time evolutions of contact radius and contact angle were analyzed to understand mechanism of drying-mediated self-organization of TIPS PEN. |
