제목 | Baroplastic behavior in the closed-loop phase block copolymer |
초록 | The effect of hydrostatic pressure on closed-loop type phase transition was investigated by using small angle neutron scattering as well as birefringence measurement for deuterated polystyrene-block-poly(n-pentyl methacrylates) diblock copolymer [dPS-PnPMA]. At hydrostatic pressure (p) up to 300 psi, with increasing temperature, dPS-PnPMA exhibited a lower disordered-to-ordered transition temperature (LDOT) at 160 oC, and then it showed an upper ordered-to-disordered transition temperature (UODT) at 240 oC. These two temperatures consist of lower and upper loops, resulting in a closed-loop type phase transition. Interestingly, with increasing pressure both LDOT and UODT were shifted enormously. The values are consistent with predictions by the Clausis-Claperon equation obtained from the experimentally measured values of the volume and enthalpy changes at both transitions, which were determined by dilatometry and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. This block copolymer can be used as a tool for making highly responsive materials to pressure.
