The viscosity of β-cyclodextrin polymer (PβCD) solution was affected by the photo-dimerization of coumarin and 7-hydroxycoumarin (7-HC) contained in PβCD solution. PβCD was prepared by by reacting β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and Epichlorohydrin (EPI). The solubilities of coumarin and 7-HC increased with increasing the concentration of PβCD, but the solubilizing effect on 7-HC was much less than that on coumarin, possibly due to the hydroxy group on the benzene ring was likely to suppress the inclusion in the cavity of β-CD. The photo-dimerization degree of 7-HC in an aqueous solution of PβCD was about half than that of coumarin, possibly because the vinyl ether of pyrone group on 7-HC could be concealed in the cavity of β-CD. The viscosity of the PβCD solution which contains coumarin was increased by photo-dimerization of coumarin. One coumarin dimer could act as a cross-linker for PβCD due to interacting with two β-CD residues. |
