We demonstrate high-efficiency inverted polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) by introducing non-conjugated polyelectrolyte, polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a cathode interfacial layer. The PEI layer is coated using solution processing onto indium tin oxide (ITO) surface via ‘ionic self-assembly’ and significantly reduce the work function of ITO from 4.8 to 4.0 eV. As a result, the electron injection barrier between the ITO and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of light-emitting materials is significantly reduced, thereby enhancing the performance of the inverted PLEDs with PEI layer. |
