Preparation of Superabsorbent Polymers Using Polysaccharide and Citric Acid |

In acrylic acid-based SAPs(superabsorbent polymers), polysaccharides have been used to impart biodegradable or disintegrable properties to the materials. The polysaccharides most commonly used in SAPs are starch and CMC(carboxymethyl cellulose). In this study, modified starch introducing aldehyde groups, CMC, and citric acid as crosslinking agent were used in order to prepare biodegradable SAPs. The characteristics of the SAPs were analyzed by changing the process conditions such as the source of starch, the degree of aldehyde substitution of hydroxyl groups of starch, the molecular weight of CMC, and the content of citric acid. |
