Lignin-derived Star Shaped Graft Polymers as Electrolyte and Binder Materials for All-Solid-State Lithium Metal Batteries |

A series of lignin based copolymers were synthesized and used as both solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) and binder for lithium secondary batteries. Star shaped poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate)(PEGMA-co-GMA) having lignin core was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and crosslinked using photo acid catalyst. Physical, morphological and electrochemical properties of SPEs and binder are systematically analyzed. The ionic conductivity of synthesized polymers are increased as the composition of PEGMA increased. When the molar ratio of PEGMA to GMA was 95:5, free standing film with the highest ionic conductivity was obtained. Also, excellent electrochemical performance was obtained when a star shaped polymer synthesized by ATRP with lignin core was used as a binder instead of PVDF. |
