Recent paradigm for the diagnosis of infectious diseases has been changed to focus on gene-based detection. In this study, we developed a novel gene-based diagnosis approach to detect sexually transmitted disease(STD). Trichomonas Vaginalis(TV) is one of the most common parasite that causes STD. However, most of the infected people do not have any signs, and routine blood test cannot detect trichomonas. Therefore, it is important to get a preventive test if you think you are at risk. A common method for check-up of the TV infection is through urine test and we compared the efficiency of three different total RNA extraction kits on the market to extract total RNA from the urine of patients. Three kits are ‘High Pure RNA Isolation Kit’ from Roche, ‘MagMAX mirVana Total RNA Isolation Kit’ from ThermoFisher, and ‘MagListo™ 5M Cell Total RNA Extraction Kit’ from Bioneer. We have compared these three kits by measuring the total RNA concentration and the purity of RNA after extraction. |
