In this presentation, we suggest block copolymer mediated synthetic protocols for multifunctional hybrid electrocatalysts for the use in energy conversion devices such as direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFCs) and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). First, a facile strategy to fabricate three dimensional periodic hybrid metal/carbon nanostructures which show an electrocatalytic activity toward formic acid oxidation is demonstrated. Next, a thin layer of Pt/carbon with an extremely low loading level of Pt is demonstrated as an alternative type of counter electrode (CE) in DSSCs, yielding a comparable power conversion efficiency compared with a reference DSSC cell using conventional Pt-based CE. |
