Pitch is one of the most fundamental material in the carbon material science that can be applied in various fields such as carbon fiber, heat-spreading sheet, binder for artificial graphite, lithium ion batteries, and so on. These pitches can be easily obtained by the heat treatment of petroleum residues. There are various types of petroleum residues such as pyrolysis fuel oil, fluidized catalytic cracking decant oil, vacuum residue. These residues have in common that they contain abundant aromatic compounds, but because of their characteristics of components, it is slightly different to make pitches from these residues. Herein, we analyzed the volatile matters generated from the manufacture of pitches from different raw materials to identify the structural changes and chemical nature of petroleum residues. By analyzing the volatile fractions, we could identify the components vaporized from various heat treatment temperature and difference in structure of each petroleum residues. |
