Investigation on the promoting effect of CO on low-temperature NOx adsorption over Pd/CeO2 |

Passive NOx adsorber (PNA) can adsorb NOx at low temperatures and release NOx by thermal energy at high temperatures, allowing downstream catalytic converters to operate effectively. Pd/CeO2 is one of the promising catalysts for PNA applications with excellent NOx adsorption and CO oxidation ability. Understanding the correlation between CO and NOx adsorption is an essential process for PNA material development. Therefore, in this study, the accelerating effect of CO on the NOx adsorption capacity of Pd/CeO2 at low temperature was investigated. NOx adsorption capacity increased significantly when CO gas was included in the feed stream. The mechanism for this facilitating effect has been suggested through experimental data such as CO oxidation capacity during NOx adsorption. The model suggests that NOx was adsorbed to oxygen vacancies in CeO2 near the Pd particles generated during CO oxidation. |
