An Emerging Anode Material of Contorted Hexabenzocoronene for Expeditious Lithium-ion Intercalation |

Enhancing the performance of carbon-based anode materials in Li-ion battery (LIB) system is of interest for next-generation Li-ion host electrode due to their unique reversible intercalation/de-intercalation process that ultimately enables to increase the performance as well as longevity. This work explores the new class of carbon-based contorted hexabenzocoronene (c-HBC) as an anode material for high-performance LIB system. Our in-depth studies of cross-section TEM, grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and molecular dynamic simulation suggest the advantageous for using contorted molecule in LIB system. For instance, the resulting electrochemical characteristics using the half-cell architecture clearly observe the single stage intercalation behavior because of the large inter-distance with the short diffusion length of Li-ion during the discharging process. |
